This song retells the very moving resurrection account from John where Mary
is asked by the angels outside the empty tomb, “Woman, why are you
weeping?” She finally recognizes Jesus and even knows herself
fully when he speaks her name.
Originally written as part of the 1995 VBS musical, Awesome Adventures,
this arrangement draws musical inspiration from the power-pop ballads of the
1980s. There is a solo for a woman as the voice of Mary, with additional unison
melody for other women and three part backing harmonies. The harmonies could be
sung by strong tenors or by a combination of altos and tenors. There are also
double lead parts for solo instruments, (originally written for electric guitar
and tenor sax).
