DescriptionThis was Jay's second collection of music for group singing and includes more songs played by The Jay Beech Band at lots of youth events. Released in 1991, it also includes Jay's first foray into writing liturgical music featuring a setting of the Holy Communion texts used in the Lutheran Book of Worship.*NOTE - It was Jay's original intent to include the Holy Communion setting in it's entirety with both music and spoken text in Rock Hymnal (vol.1). However, at the time, the ALC, LCA, LCMS, and ELCC had established a policy that did not allow composers to write their own settings of the liturgical texts that were proprietary to LBW. The two songs that were affected by that policy in this case were "Worthy Is Christ" (This Is the Feast), and "Let the Vineyards Be Fruitful." Eventually that policy was modified in a way that allowed publication of new settings, but not as part of a hymnal or song collection. By that time, Jay had decided to publish this collection without printing or recording those texts as a way of drawing attention to this policy controlling their use. Rock Hymnal vol.2 was too far along in production to make the necessary changes. Click here to read the full explanation as printed in the book.
