Description
The Transfiguration of Our Lord is one of those Sundays for which there seems to be a dearth of good musical selections. It is also probably one of the least understood stories in the New Testament. Could one song solve both problems? Probably not, but Jay gave it his best shot with “Suddenly, Up on the Mountain.” The text reflects on Moses' and Elijah's encounters with God on the mountain as well as the way in which we now see the glory of God with unveiled faces. In the end, just as Jesus “
…set his face toward Jerusalem,” we are pointed toward the season of Lent.
Though a bit difficult to classify musically, the refrain may remind you of a rock ballad. However, the melody will be very accessible to your congregation both in terms of range and rhythm.
